Fiberglass Enclosures

Why FiberGlass?

Superior Power Systems generators benefit from one of the most revolutionary concepts to be introduced to the stand-by generator market for at least a decade. Superior embarked on a long term research and development program in 1986 to bring about a series of generator enclosures designed to meet the heightened environmental concerns of today's demanding market.

Our design engineers focused on a series of challenging objectives to produce an enclosure which would provide the highest degree of equipment protection while demonstrating sensitivity to the surrounding environment. It is our belief that enclosures should grant the generator a highly protective surrounding while being as weather tight as possible; they should withstand severe climate and atmospheric conditions. The enclosure should be capable of enduring heavy wind, rain or snow loads in addition to being resistive to harsh chemical or saline surroundings. The enclosure should provide the equipment with maximum protection whether it is installed in a mountainous region or along a salty coastal flatland. The enclosures should be non-corrosive thereby minimizing and adverse visual impact to those who co-habit areas where stand-by power must be installed; further, the enclosure should be designed to attenuate noise projection.

The end result of 5 years of research to design a product responsive to all of these concerns is the Superior Power Systems fiberglass enclosure. It is available in a variety of sizes and was developed to be applicable to new product orders or retrofit to existing stand-by installations with metal cabinets which have corroded beyond reason or acceptability. With the Superior fiberglass enclosure, the future is now. The enclosure is made of the highest quality materials and manufactured using what is known as hand lay-up construction. Our craftsman carefully prepare the mold before each unit is placed in production. Our lay-up schedule begins with a minimum 18 mils of gel coat and ends with a layer of woven roving embedded in resin enhanced with neutral gray cultured marble pigments. All enclosure roofs include a minimum of one half inch of core material and in the larger sizes, roof bows are installed. The roof features throughout the product line have been fabricated to ensure these enclosures can withstand at least fifty pounds per square foot of loading. The roof portion of the sentinel series enclosure is the exception regarding core material. The very stringent lay-up schedule in conjunction with an intricate design or radii and curves to promote greater strength allow the sentinel to be lighter and more compact without compromising durability.

As pioneers in an area which has been overlooked and disregarded, Superior has already proven that there is a high demand for quality and aesthetic consideration in the stand-by generator market. Superior Power Systems has become the largest supplier of seamless fiberglass generator enclosures in the Northeast market, area and is actively pursuing the same status in the Southeast region. The design, quality, and benefits are self-evident.

Our preliminary tests indicated the fiberglass would be at least 10-13 decibels quieter then competitive metal products without the addition of sound reduction liners. Our field and on site tests have yielded even more favorable results. We suspect that our "maximum effort" to deal with known problems has helped to identify those areas most suspect in allowing annoying noise to migrate from the equipment and eventually the installation site. Consequently a decision to deal with sound pressure by eliminating possible areas of escape resulted in a completely seamless design which helps to keep noise in and water out. The valve of teamwork between our older, more seasoned professionals and our younger aggressive, hard-working engineering and manufacturing staff cannot be overstated.

In this day and age of environmental concerns and more demanding product quality and service life there is no longer any reason to settle for outdated designs and inferior construction. The Superior solution has proven there is an affordable method to deal with noise and corrosion and quality is the key.
